UPDATED: Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - A helicopter crashed near the Twin Falls Airport.

At just about noon, 51–year–old Steven Wybenga of Twin Falls crashed his Endstrom helicopter.

The Airport Manager said the pilot was flying the lightweight craft solo over the canal area near the airport when he reported a rough–running engine.

The plane then lost its power and needed to force land.

"He was out here doing some training. He was a very skilled pilot and just had an unfortunate loss of power according to the pilot. It's hard to tell whether this can be repaired or not. It will be moved into a hanger and we'll have the mechanics assess it at that time,” said Bill Carberry, Airport Manager.

The FAA is inspecting the crash.
