Hostess Shutdown Has Local Impacts
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Twinkies were suppose to last forever. But the popular snack cake could soon be nothing more than a memory.
"Hostess. I love the powdered donuts. Those were probably my favorite," said Clint Eldridge.
The search was on as people tried to find hostess products here in Twin Falls. The rush on Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs came after Hostess and Wonder Bread made an announcement Friday morning that they would be shutting down operations.
"Yeah I'm going to miss those. I'm not sure what's gonna happen," said Clint Eldridge.
The Wonder Bread and Hostess Outlet here in Twin Falls is preparing to close following the announcement. Signs on the door advertise a fifty percent going out of business sale.
"I average probably about twelve dollars every two weeks spending it here at the bread store and I usually get lucky and can get it off the fifty cent rack and I was doing the math earlier and at fifty cents that's an average of twenty–four times every two weeks and in the regular stores those items are two fifty to three dollars," said Tabitha Briggs.
But saving money isn't the only concern following the closings of hostess. Residents from across the Magic Valley are in mourning that their favorite line of snack cakes will soon be no more.
"Mine personally was the cupcakes," said Tabitha Briggs.
"It's got to be the powdered donuts, those white powdered donuts. They are so soft,” said Clint Eldridge.
It's the end of an era, the era of the Hostess Twinkie.
