How Is The Sun Valley Resort Holding Up?

Tools

By Joey Martin

Sun Valley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV )One aspect of the Beaver Creek Fire that has many wondering ... How is the world famous Sun Valley Resort is handling the blaze?

We spoke with officials from the resort this Monday and they assured us that the lodge and ski areas are in good hands.

The resort has the capability of creating their own artificial snow.

By using that very same technology they are able to protect the slopes.

Crews have been working to make sure the ski areas are covered with water, and in doing so are preventing spot fires from flaring up.

As for the lodge itself...

The resort has seen quite a few cancellations, but as locals are forced from their residences they are finding that the Sun Valley Lodge is a much welcomed home away from home.

"The locals that have been evacuated... we welcome them at the lodge. There were quite a few of them here, in fact I think we had 46 rooms last night that were evacuees. Short term this does hurt the entire valley economically, including the resort. A real big hit for a short time... but were a very special place, we have a loyal clientele, were goanna come back with a vengeance and well be better than ever."
Said Jack Sibbach Director of Marketing for Sun Valley Resort

The resort is offering a special reduced evacuee rate for all residents finding themselves without a home for the night.

Sibbach assures us that the resort is 100% open and ready for business.

That includes the restaurants, golf course, indoor ice rink and all of the other world famous Sun Valley Resort amenities.
