How To Keep Pets Warm In Cold Weather

By KMVT News

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Even though the coldest part of winter looks to be over, you need to keep your pets warm.

A local veterinarian points out animals need adequate shelter, especially from Southern Idaho winter winds. He says make sure your pet has plenty of food and water, and neither one gets frozen. Additionally, pets need to be healthy to withstand the cold.

Dr. Zsigmond Szanto of Twin Falls Veterinary Clinic and Hospital says, "If they're unhealthy, they have respiratory problems, have kidney problems, or any other medical condition, arthritis, staying outside is a lot more taxing on the body."

Szanto says animals with short fur can stand cold weather only for short periods of time.
