Shoshone, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Temperatures were mild and wet snow was falling but that didn't stop one hundred and thirty fishermen.
The West Magic Ice Fishing Tournament takes place every year.
The ice was able to get about 2 feet thick...just right for ice fishing.
"The weather is not the best today because it is a little warmer so the edges are a little iffy but the ice is plenty thick."
People of all ages come out for the two day event.
Most of the fish caught are perch and trout...and at the end of the tournament the two with the biggest catches get prizes.
There are two categories that the two different fish are judged on...weight and length.
The past two years have been won by Riley Harrison...a thirteen year old...whose method is just patiently waiting over the hole.
Others that are in the contest wait patently in tents utilizing several fishing poles.
Thus far we caught three trout and a couple hours and were pretty happy with what we caught so far., hoping to catch more.
Hartman saw an increase of participants this year and expects to see this event continue in the future.
“It get bigger all the time, we get more and more sponsors, better gifts, 16 prizes more participation make it better for everybody.”
The fishing ended early in the afternoon...after fishing participants fillet their catches in a contest.
