Idaho 24 Work Near Rupert Underway

Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) – The Idaho Transportation Department said that crews will begin reconstructing the railroad crossing on Idaho 24 between Rupert and Interstate 84 Monday April 21 as part of a highway resurfacing project expected to continue in May, Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction across the railroad tracks south of the 200 South Road intersection for one week. The traffic control will be set up Sunday afternoon in preparation for Monday’s startup. Traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes during the first phase of work and shifted to the southbound lanes Wednesday April 23.
A crew from Eastern Idaho Railroad is replacing the existing track and concrete platform that services a Handy Truck Line location. Crews will temporarily patch the approach to the tracks after replacement is complete.
The railroad crossing work will allow crews to place an asphalt overlay and seal coat on Idaho 24 between the Interstate 84 on-/off-ramps at Exit 211 and the Rupert south city limit. Paving is expected to begin in mid-May, with the seal coat to follow in late June or early July.
A reduced speed limit of 35 mph and a 14-foot width restriction will be in effect through the construction zone. Drivers are reminded to watch for construction equipment entering and exiting the work area.
