Idaho 2nd Place Nationwide For Volunteering
Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) When it comes to donating your time, the state of Idaho came in second place nationwide for volunteering.
The neighboring state of Utah continued to hold first place in the "Volunteering and Civil Life in America" report.
A local economist says almost 40 percent of Idahoans are donating their time at a rate of just over $15 per hour. That adds up to over $50 million in South Central Idaho alone.
Regional Economist Jan Roeser with the Idaho Department of Labor says, "The other states that are in the top ten also have a lot of rural leanings, conservative states that are based on a lot of agricultural production. So I think that has a lot to do with it as well."
Roeser says for people who live in mostly rural areas, volunteering is part of their social life, and their entertainment as well. The report says nationwide volunteering has reached its highest rate in six years.
