Idaho Lawmakers Review This Year's Session

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A Magic Valley lawmaker points out that overall, the statehouse had a good session this year.

The successes include balancing the budget and reducing taxes for local businesses, and passing the healthcare exchange, which they'll have to deal with again next year.

Rep. Stephen Hartgen, (R) District 24, says, "One we intentionally put off was the Medicaid expansion decision, and I'm glad we did. I think we needed more time to look at that. It came up late in the session, and we just decided we need to think about that more over the summer. Look at what some other states are doing, and what the real implications will be for Idaho."

Hartgen explains that Idaho saw some additional revenue this year because the state is growing. He also points out that lawmakers were able to control their costs this year.
