Burley, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The hot weather isn't the only reason to head to the water.

Idaho Power has released more than 20,000 catfish into Milner Reservoir near Burley.

This is Idaho Powers 20th year that the company has stocked two popular fishing spots in Southern Idaho.

"We released these catfish both right in the Burly area one at the Lex Kunau Park which is right at the overland bridge just on the north side of the overland bridge. The other is at Highway 30 at the Heyburn Bridge so right close to each other in the Burley area there” said Dan Olmstead, Community Relations Idaho Power.

The catfish are pan-sized and weigh less than a pound.

Previous fish released in the past years could now weigh as much as three pounds and be more than 20 inches long.

"The catfish we release are small they were actually began their journey to Idaho from Arkansas, and then they were raised up to this size in Hagerman” said Dan Olmstead, Community Relations Idaho Power.

The fish release is a requirement under the terms of the company's federal license to operate its 5.75 megawatt hydroelectric generation facility.

Throwing a line in the water could mean a good catch.
