Idaho Ranks High In School Breakfasts
Kimberly, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The state of Idaho is 14th in the nation when it comes to serving healthy breakfasts at school. But the trick is serving what kids like to eat.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially if you need to do some serious thinking at school or at work. The food service crew for the Kimberly School District agrees.
Roxanne Mumm, Food Service Supervisor, says, "We serve about 150 students in Kimberly every day at all three schools. The high school and the middle school here had the most growth. We're trying to make the breakfasts for them convenient and delicious, something that they want to eat."
Mumm says Idaho is at the forefront, and has been working very hard for many years to have nutritious meals. She's not surprised that the Food Research and Action Center has ranked Idaho 14th best in the entire nation when it comes to serving healthy breakfasts.
Mumm says, "We want to make sure that the kids can learn through the day, and they need a healthy breakfast. So the kids that don't get breakfast at home, it's important for them to eat before they go to class."
Mumm says the benefits of having breakfast at school are that these kids not only get a good balanced diet, but it's much easier to learn if your stomach isn't growling. And what's at the top of their breakfast hit parade?
Mumm says, "Mini pancakes, French toast, lots of cereal, fruit, and juice."
