Jerome Considers Minor Revisions To Zoning Ordinance

By Jay Michaels

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV) Last fall we told you about the City of Jerome beginning to enforce the international fire code it had adopted. Those changes required daycares taking care of six to 16 children to have fire sprinklers installed.

Now the Jerome Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending that the city council change their current ordinance to match up with the 2009 International Fire Code.

Zoe Monahan, Community Development Director for the City of Jerome, says, "What they'll do is change the number of children from six or fewer to five or fewer. And on the group daycare facility, they'll change it from seven to 12 to six to 12."

The recommendation modifies the definitions of "family daycare homes" and "group daycare facilities." Monahan says that the proposed change requires new daycares with six or more children to have fire sprinklers installed.
