Jerome County Commissioners Discuss Budget

By KMVT News

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Tuesday, the budget was a topic of discussion at the Jerome County Commissioners meeting.

Department heads, commissioners, the sheriff, and clerks all participated in the meeting.

The group held a round table discussion, in which they talked about what money they anticipated coming in this year, including a three percent increase in property tax.

Jerome County Commissioner Chair Charlie Howell explains big issues at the forefront.

“The thought process is to go through our list of projects, what we can afford, and what we can’t afford, and put money aside to help with the completion of the jail because we don't have those final numbers yet, but that's the project that we're going to be working on today," he says.

The group is expecting to have the proposed budget completed by July 28th.

Before it is finalized in October, a public hearing will be held to get input from residents.
