Jerome County Sheriffs To Purchase Catch Poles For Animal Control

By Ben Lyda

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) The Jerome County Sheriffs are being proactive as they met with the county commissioners today.
They are proposing to purchase catch poles for each deputy when dealing with animals.
There is no animal control in Jerome and last year 129 dogs were brought in.
Deputies have been bit in the past and Chief Deputy Jack Johnson explains the safety benefits.
“I myself was bit five years ago dealing with a dog, the dog wasn’t necessarily aggressive it was scared, but when I grabbed it to load it up he bit me. It gives the deputies another tool to safely deal with aggressive dogs. One dog bite is going to cast more than all 12 of these poles combined.”
The county commissioners approved the purchase of twelve catch poles for each patrol vehicle.
