Jerome Jail fails Idaho Sheriff's Assn. inpection, again

By KMVT News Staff

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT) - The Jerome County Jail didn't pass the inspection by the Idaho Sheriff's Association two weeks ago; the jail overseer says the facility itself wasn't in compliance with eight mandatory areas, including overcrowding.

The jail will lose four of its 34 beds to meet current standards, but jailers are exploring possible options to make things better.

Lt. Robert Hass, Jerome County Sheriff’s Office says, “I've been working on a plan with some construction people to possibly expand Cell 8 downstairs, and create a Cell 9 in the old courtroom downstairs where our exercise equipment is now.”

Hass says the proposed expansion would provide 14 more beds, to help reduce overcrowding.

He says it's possible that some of the money now used for 'out of county housing' could help pay for the remodel.
