Jerome Urban Renewal Lays Plans For Future Growth

By Jay Michaels

Jerome, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Jerome Urban Renewal Agency is putting together a plan to help the city grow even more than it already has.

Right now they're getting ready to close what they call Area One, while keeping a second area open. Both of those areas are in the industrial area east of South Lincoln in Jerome. They're looking at opening up a third area to invite businesses into.

Marjorie Schmidt, Board Chair for the Jerome URA, says, "We're looking at anything from the eastern edge of out business district all the way to the interchange on the freeway to the west. It's very large, and maybe two blocks in either direction through the business district all the way out there."

Schmidt says they have to make sure the third area is big enough to generate a certain amount of revenue. She says the whole purpose of urban renewal is to stimulate growth. But the board is making sure they think things through adequately before moving ahead with the plan they're formulating.
