Judge Overturns Jerome Voters Decision, Allows City To Purchase Bonds To Upgrade Sewer System

By Paul Johnson

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) - District Judge John Butler has ruled in favor of Jerome’s request to begin the process of upgrading the city’s sewer system. The city today announced the Judge has issued his written decision. Earlier, voters in the community said no to the city’s request. The city council then looked to the district judge claiming it was a valid ordinary and necessary expense. To pay for the $35.8 million dollar expansion, the city raised the sewer rates on the water bills to area residents in October.
According to a news release by the city, they will immediately begin the pre-design phase and then move to the design phase in order to make repairs to the existing system.
Earlier the city announced that water rates will increase $19.50 a month to pay for the repairs.
