One of Dan Heil's responsibilities as the Twin Falls Crime Prevention Officer is ensuring our kids are educated on how to stay safe.

"The old verbage over the last few years was stranger danger, we're trying to transition away from that and make it a more comprehensive programs for students,” Heil told us.

Officer Heil and the School Resource Officers educate students on the difference between good and bad strangers.

"Some of the tips we like to tell them is unlike stranger danger, not all strangers are bad people. Not all bad people are strangers. SO we like to educate kids on warning signs to watch out for."

The program teaches kids that some strangers such as counselors, teachers, firefighters and police officers are good strangers. Students are taught that good strangers are people they can go to for help.

Robert Stuart Middle School Principal Kasey Teske told us that students’ safety is the schools number one priority. "Each morning and each day after school, we have teachers on duty along with myself and my associate principal so we always try to be vigilant before and after school."

Teachers at Robert Stuart Middle School monitor the hallways between classes and School Resource Officers watch the camera network in the building. Keeping our kids safe is a team effort, one that Officer Heil takes personally.
