Keeping Your Lawn Up To Code Over The Summer

By KMVT News

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) With summer officially starting this week, grass and weeds can grow fast, and with that comes yard work.

The City of Jerome would like to remind its residents about the laws regarding property upkeep.

Grass and weeds cannot be over eight inches tall within city limits.

If you have shrubs or branches that overhang onto a public street or sidewalk, they need to be trimmed.

Property owners are responsible from the middle of the street to the middle of an alley if there is one.

"They'll generally receive a notice from the co-compliance officer which identifies that they are not in compliance with the code, and they’re given five business days to correct the issue," explains Zoe Monahan, Community Development Director.

If the property isn't cleaned up in five days, the city will step in and take care of it at the owner’s expense.

For more information, please call the code enforcement office at 324-8189, ext. 131.
