Kimberly Church Takes People's Garden Iniative To The Next Level

By Brandon Redmond

Kimberly, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Kimberly Church of the Nazarene started participating in the People's Garden Initiative several years ago. The church planted a garden to help the community. This spring they are taking the initiative to a new level. The church in conjunction with the USDA is working to build a greenhouse. They will now be raising their existing garden but will also be planting and growing food all year long.

"In about twenty days we will start planting in the greenhouse and outside. And what we hope to do is because of the windy weather and the high altitude that we have in the Magic Valley, this will allow us to grow crops year round. We will do cold crops like spinach, lettuce, carrots, and radishes in the greenhouse," said Lance Phillips from the USDA Office. Phillips is the chair person for the greenhouse.

The food will be given to food banks, charities, senior citizens and people in need. The church is looking for volunteers. If you want to help, they will be working on the greenhouse for the next two weekends.
