Lazarus Home Raises Hopes For New Lives

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) For people who are getting out of prison, finding your way back into society can be an incredible challenge.

The Idaho Chaplains Corps has three houses in Magic Valley where former convicts can learn new life skills, while they're living in a safe drug-free environment. Those include the Risen Home in Jerome and Lazarus Home in Twin Falls for male ex-prisoners, and the Serenity House in Twin Falls for women.

Monte Brandt, resident at Lazarus Home, says, "The rent's reasonable, the people are good. Great programs that come to the house, Bible studies. We're in a good location, there's churches all around, places to go to better our lives."

Aftercare Coordinator Steve Wills says they teach life skills and also have 12 step groups in this program. He says the most important factor is for ex-prisoners to have "new playmates and a new playground" if they're going to succeed in their new lives.
