BURLEY, ID (KMVT) Reading stories to small children can catch their attention and help their imaginations grow.
Today about 20 preschoolers tucked themselves into "The Bookseller" at the Burley Public Library. They heard stories about frogs and even got to feed some fake bugs to a silly stuffed frog. One of the librarians explained the purpose behind story time.
Valerie Bame of the Burley Public Library says, "To encourage children to learn to use the library, develop a love of books and stories, and to provide early literacy tips for parents and caregivers that attend as well."
Bame says you should let your kids choose the kinds of books they like or the subjects they're interested in. She says when adults read books to children, the bonding that occurs is just as important as the stories being shared.
