RUPERT,ID (KMVT-TV) - Friday, the entire city of Rupert officially welcomed in the Christmas season with a very special celebration.
For the past 30 plus years the city of Rupert and the Christmas Lights Committee spend hours upon hours decorating the city square.
This year, the small city packed around a thousand eager spectators into the square, all to catch a glimpse of the big guy in red, And to also turn on the Christmas lights that line all four corners of the historic square.
To help raise money for this years lights, the Christmas Lights Committee set up shop and sold chili and cinnamon roll dinners to families and fiends who want to help keep this long time running tradition alive.
"Santa will come in on the fire truck. We will turn on all of the lights, and weather permitting, with the wind going down, we hope to have some fireworks."
Said, Chairman of the Rupert Christmas lights committee.
This year Santa Claus took top honors and was chosen to flip the switch on the lights and officially bring in the holiday season.
And for kids of all ages, even the blistering cold couldn't keep their Christmas excitement down.
