Local Candy Maker Strives For Confection Perfection

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A local candy maker says her business is booming, and her chocolate is already in a store near you.

Cyndi Arno says when she first started Arno's Confection Perfection, she made chocolate bark with a dark layer on the bottom and a white layer on the top covered with crushed hard candy. Now she says most of her 12 different flavors are dark chocolate bark.

Arno says, "We did Death by Chocolate in 2008, and walked away with two awards, we didn't even know they had awards. They had to stop us from leaving, so we stuck around. That was exciting, so we said, 'I guess we're making bark for a living.'"

Last year that translated to 3,000 pounds of chocolate and sales of just under $50,000. Their most popular flavors are peppermint, caramel crunch with sea salt, roasted almond, and pretzel toffee.

Arno says, "We also have pretzel toffee. We have toffee bark, coffee bark, Irish Crème coffee bark, raspberry bark, mint bark."

Locally the Arno's chocolate bark is available at the Cookie Basket, the Mail Room, the gift shop at St. Luke's Magic Valley, and the Sta-Well health food store. Arno says Twitter serves her bark in their employee lunchroom, and is looking to expand her markets through Nordstroms department stores and the Whole Foods company.

Cyndi's husband Rob Arno says, "I used to have a painting contracting business and we both know that in order to make something happen, you really have to dig in. And whatever they throw at you, you have to do."
