Local Couple Celebrates Lucky St. Patrick's Day With Proposal
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
The Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Twin Falls was canceled due to high winds. But one couple didn’t let that ruin their day.
Our meteorologist Nick Kosir explains, "65 MPH wind gusts are very close to tropical storm status. That threshold is 73 mph so it’s almost like a hurricane is coming through."
Power lines going down, trees falling down, and the St. Patrick's Day parade canceled.
The erratic spring weather is upon us.
Kosir explains, "this is definitely that time of the year when it's a roller coast ride so for the next couple of months we're going to get these powerful storms tracking through the area."
But, in downtown twin falls, O'Dunken's is still lively with St. Patrick's Day fun.
Co-owner of O’Dunken’s Beverly O’Connor notes, “It affected the parade and we hated to cancel it but for safety purposes everyone's okay with it, they are still having a blast."
Despite the gusty winds, one couple didn't let that stand in the way of making their St. Patrick's Day special.
Ben Shetler took the opportunity to propose to his girlfriend, Makala Bridges. Says Shetler, "She always wanted to be proposed to on St. Patricks Day so it was kind of the plan even though she was kind of expecting it."
Bridges continues, "I've always loved it, it’s my favorite holiday, everyone is so happy and cheerful, it’s wonderful... I'm the luckiest girl in the world."
O’Connor exclaims, "It made me cry, it was darling and she said yes, wahoo! We had it set up for the parade but we had to switch it up and it still worked out great."
Green a very lucky color on St. Patty's day for one couple.
