Local Woman Reveals Santa's Magic Valley Secrets
Kimberly, Idaho (KMVT-TV) Long time Magic Valley resident Gary Stone is well known for his distinctive painting style.
You can see his murals in Hansen, Jerome, and the Twin Falls airport. But there's more to that story. Gary Stone's wife Bev is a talented artist in her own right, but she expresses herself in words instead of pictures.
When Bev Stone's grandchildren started asking questions about Santa Claus, she wrote a book to answer those questions. It's called "The Secret of Santa Claus," and it reveals some little known facts about St. Nick and Southern Idaho. Like the snowy elves, whose magic makes Santa's big sleigh and eight reindeer fly, originally came from Magic Valley.
Local author Bev Stone says, "So every book that I write, they fly over Magic Valley, and they always return to Magic Valley for wisdom from the wise old snowy elf who lives at Magic Mountain.
Gary and Bev also collaborated on the sequel called "Santa Plus Martha," as well as the coffee table book "Stone by Stone on the Oregon Trail."
Bev Stone says, "Gary went to 40 locations along the Oregon Trail through Idaho, parts of Utah, Oregon, and Wyoming, and painted what he was on site."
The Stones are selling the remaining copies of "The Secret Of Santa," which is in its fourth printing, for $12 a piece. There's also a black and white coloring book version for only $5. That enables parents to save a sample of their kids coloring skills.
Stone says, "These little books are such fun. They are so true life, only in a nice, old-fashioned way."
Shipping for all three of the books is free, and you can call the Stones in Kimberly at 423-4355.
