Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) It's not often you have the opportunity to outrun them and not be thrown in jail.

Saturday morning marked the second annual Beat the Heat 5–K which followed the Twin Falls Police Department Torch Run.

Beat the Heat, is an opportunity to challenge Chief Brian Pike to a 5K race.

Those who beat him earn a Twin Falls Police Challenge Coin.

18–year old Jordan Cress won the 5–K in 21 minutes. Bear Bangs and Andrew Baker took second and third with a time of just over 23 minutes.

Pike finished with a respectable time of 36 minutes.

"I wasn't able to run last year because of an injury so this was the first year I got to put my time on the board," explains Pike.

Between the community's and the Twin Falls Police Department's efforts, proceeds will benefit Special Olympics of Idaho and money stays with local athletes.

Some of those athletes got to man the water stations.
