Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Friends and family of long–time North Side Canal Manager Ted Diehl gathered in Jerome this Wednesday.

They were all there to give the 87 year old manager a proper send off after serving 44 years on the job.

Ted Diehl became manager of the North Side Canal Company back on June 1st, 1969.

Since then, Diehl has held the reins of one of the largest mutual irrigation companies in the state of Idaho.

Diehl is also credited for his work in the fundamental change from furrow irrigation to the now widely used sprinkler irrigation.

"It's been a great experience. Worked with a lot of great people... I've always had a good crew and board of directors. I appreciate all that's been done and I thank everybody."
Said Ted Diehl, retiring after 44 years as North Side Canal Manager.

Diehl's last day on the job will be April 30th.

Replacing him will be Allen Hansten, who has served as Assistant Manager for the canal company over the past couple of years.
