Long-time Fair Employee Honored

Filer, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Twin Falls County Fair gets underway Wednesday morning.

Tuesday evening, fair employees came together to honor one of their own with a special surprise ceremony.

This year marks the 50th year in a row that Lydia Yoder has dedicated her time to the fair.

Her first year on the job was way back in 1963.

For a little perspective on how long ago that was…

Back in 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald and The Beatles released their first album titled "Please, Please Me".

This afternoon the fair board honored Yoder with a ceremonial plaque for her continuous work over a half century.

"I was completely surprised because I had no inkling that they were going to award me anything. I enjoyed it so I decided... well ill come out and work in one the buildings. I went to the Home Arts department because they needed help... it wasn't long they said well we need you in the produce department and they just kept moving me around... I even worked in the office," said Lydia Yoder, 50 years on the job.

This is the 97th year for the fair.

And if Yoder’s staying power is any indication, the fair will be here for another 97 years.
