Looking To Be A Firefighter?

By KMVT News

Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The Jerome City Fire Department is still recruiting for volunteer firefighters.

Wednesday the department held two open houses at the fire headquarters to explain what's expected from the position.

Right now there are 16 full-time and 10 part-time positions within the staff and they want to increase their part-time numbers by at least six.

"Our department is combination; we're made up of full-time firefighters and volunteer firefighters. We use those terms interchangeably. The volunteers get compensated an hourly wage, it's minimum wage but some of the benefits are they get to be here, they get the free training and we try to hire from within when we get vacancies so there's potential for full-time employment when the vacancies come open," explains Jerome Fire Chief Tom Hughes.

You have one more opportunity Wednesday night at seven to attend the open house.

Applications need to be returned to fire headquarters or city hall no later than February 21st by four p.m.
