Lottery Changes A Buhl Family's Life
BUHL, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - Ever wonder what you would do if you won the lottery?
TLC has a new show called "Lottery Changed My Life."
This week’s episode features a local restaurant.
Three years ago, the owners won a million dollars in the Idaho Raffle.
Since then they've put the money to good use.
Most of us will never know what it's like to win a million dollars.
But, most of us aren't Cathie Owens.
"We bought the building as an investment and then after we had it for a few months we decided to open a restaurant," said Cathie Owens, Owner That One Place.
Cathie and her husband Gregg, both Buhl natives, opened "That One Place" on the corner of Broadway and Main St. back in 2009.
"We just decided it was something that Buhl needed. Just a nice place that people could go to eat so they didn't have to go to Twin all the time," said Owens.
Before that, Cathie worked as a medical assistant at St. Luke's for 18 years.
Gregg worked for Clear Springs Foods in Buhl for 21.
Now, things are different.
"It's changed it in that we're able as a family to work together now. We get to spend, you know, every day together. It's a lot more work than we anticipated. We work a lot harder now than we did before we won the lottery," said Owens.
Even though the restaurant has enriched Cathie's life in so many ways, she said if she had it to do all over again. She'd do something different.
"I joke all the time that I need to win the lottery again so I can get rid of my lottery winnings," said Owens.
Owens does feel satisfaction in one thing.
"I feel really glad we've contributed to the community we're from."
Her advice to future lottery winners...
"When you win you have a lot of people telling you what to do. A lot of advice and take each person's advice to heart and take your time when you decide what to do," said Owens.
Owens' favorite part of her new endeavor, all the new people she gets to meet.
The episode airs Monday night at 7 p.m. on TLC.
