Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Students at Dworshak Elementary in Burley celebrated the end of Lunch Buddies Wednesday.
The mentor program pairs junior high students with at risk elementary schoolers.
Starting in the fall, eighth graders from Burley Junior High shared lunches with first graders once every other week.
This, in order to give younger kids role models who can set positive examples.
Cassia Regional Medical Center facilitates the program by busing the students and throwing the end of the year celebration.
“Model eating health and going out and exercising and all the attention these kids get from the older student gives them a lot of positive experience during their school year,” explains Stephanie Curtis, Cassia Regional Medical Center.
The eighth graders chosen to mentor had to maintain good grades year round.
