Meet The New Canyon Ridge Principal
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) The brand new principal for Canyon Ridge High School is an experienced educator. In fact, he's gotten that experience right here in Twin Falls schools.
Kasey Teske has been logging his education experience for the last 16 years. Now that he's the new principal of Canyon Ridge High School in Twin Falls, he'll put that experience to good use.
Teske says, "I was at Oregon Trail for four years as the head principal, two years before that as the assistant principal. And then at Robert Stuart the last three years. And now I'm starting a new journey at Canyon Ridge."
Canyon Ridge has a high graduation rate, with many of those graduates going on to college. Teske wants to continue preparing students for life after high school, whether that means college or careers.
Assistant Principal Mike Gemar says, "He's familiar with the at-risk kids, just our general population of kids. I think his knowledge of the Common Core that we're getting ready to implement and things like that, are going to be advantageous to us. Again, he always works to do what's best for the kids."
Implementing the Idaho Core Standards also means a new test, called the Smarter Balanced Assessment. That means plenty of curriculum work to get ready. Those changes can help students think, read, and write at a higher level.
Teske says, "I'm excited to be a part of that. And a very accepting culture, very welcoming. We have a bunch of students from different areas of the world, a big diversity in our students. But it all comes together, and it's a neat culture."
Teske explains the people who work at Canyon Ridge and the students who attend there are what really matters.
