Melanie Titus Gets 3 Years' Probation In Grand Theft Plea Bargain
Burley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) A Burley woman charged with grand theft from the Smith's grocery store there was sentenced today.
Last August, 23 year old Melanie Titus of Burley was charged with grand theft. That was after the manager for the Burley Smith's grocery store noticed some discrepancies in Titus' bookkeeping. Titus admitted to taking $2,000, and returned half of that amount.
Two months ago Titus accepted a plea bargain, in which she pled guilty to grand theft. In exchange, the penalties of up to 14 years in prison and a fine up to $5,000 were suspended.
Titus said, "I am fully prepared to do what I have to do to correct that mistake, and pay what I have to pay to pay back. And I recognize that there are consequences that I have to make up for now."
Today titus was sentenced by District Judge Michael Crabtree. She will now serve three years probation. If she successfully completes her probation, Crabtree will dismiss the grand theft charge.
The amount of restitution that Titus will pay will be determined at 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon July first.
