Middle School Students Break Food Collecting Records

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) For the last two weeks, the 900 students at O'Leary Middle School in Twin Falls have been collecting non-perishable food items.

They were hoping to gather 8,000 cans and packages. Those will be donated to the Salvation Army for their pantry and food baskets. This year the kids greatly exceeded their goal by gathering more than 12,000 packages and cans of food.

O'Leary Student Council Advisor Kelley Ramirez says, "We collect money that we donate to Valley House, we've collected good used clean washed jeans for the Refugee Center."

Ramirez says O'Leary Middle School students managed to raise more than $3,000 to donate to Valley House. The students also gathered almost 400 pairs of jeans for the College of Southern Idaho's Refugee Center.
