Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Nothing gets school spirit stirred up like a good pep rally. But students at Minico High School are putting a new spin on that idea. It's all about cheering for everybody.
"Unity is strength. Unity is never just about me."
Unity. It's an idea these nine student body officers want to make real at Minico High School.
Minico Senior Kolbee Tibbets says, "My line is everyone has the power to be somebody's superhero. It means a lot to me, because when I was a freshman, I looked up to the older kids. So as a freshman, I think that it would be great to be united by this dance."
The unity "dance" they've come up with is fairly simple. It's nine different short sayings including "We all want to help each other, Spartans are like that," and "We want to live by each other's happiness, not each other's misery."
Student Body President Evan Miller says, "I say there's enough room for everybody at Minico. We talk a lot about coming together as a school, focusing on that common factor. Helping to bring out peoples' similarities, and not exclude them for their differences."
These students believe that everyone's differences make each other strong. They hope more than a thousand of their classmates learn the song and dance, and join in at ballgames.
Minico Senior Dakota Twiss says, "My line is unity is never just about me. One person may have an idea, but it's going to take more than one person. It's going to take a big group to come together and actually complete it."
As Aristotle would say, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
