Rupert, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) – The Minidoka County Board of Commissioners say additional charges may be filed against the County sheriff. This after the Idaho Attorney General’s office filed a felony charge against Minidoka County Sheriff Kevin Halverson Friday, June 21. The charge is misuse of public money by a public officer. That charge was filed following an investigation, the AG’s office said. The loss to the county is less than $300 according to the complaint.
In a news release issued by the county, it says, “While the Felony charge has been filed, the County Commissioners understand the investigation is still ongoing and could potentially result in additional charges. The County cannot discuss certain issues dealing with allegations and concerns surrounding the investigation due to personnel issues and the ongoing investigation. The County is waiting to see what additional steps will be taken by the Office of the Attorney General to deal with these concerns.”
Sheriff Halverson will be arraigned at 10:30 am July 18th in the Minidoka County Magistrate Court. At this time, the sheriff has not been placed on Administrative leave.
