Mustang Complex Fire Grows To 89,859 Acres
Salmon, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The Mustang Complex fire near Salmon, Idaho has burned a total of 89,859 acres as of today with officials saying they have 6-percent of it contained. A total of 496 personnel are on scene. The fire started the weekend of July 28 by lightning. Five of the fires, the Mustang, Broomtail, Roan, Cayuse and East Butte have burned together. The Lost Packer Fire continues to burn and and increase in size. The Complex is currently west of Spring Creek, north of the Slamon River, east of Lucky Ridge, and south of Horse Creek, Gattin Ranch and Bronco Lake. The Mustang Fire continues to burn actively along the Salmon River between Long Tom Creek and Corn Creek. No air operations were condcuted today due to smoke conditions obsuring visibility. The Beartrap Lookout was confirmed destroyed by the fire late yesterday. Fires are in steep inaccessible terrain. Some areas of the fire are currently not staffed due to safety concerns. Additional Management Action Points are being developed. It’s expected that the fire will be contained around September 30, 2012.
