New Job Blends Education, Idaho, And Business

By Jay Michaels

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Boise-based "Idaho Business for Education" has hired its first full time president.

Rod Gramer was a newspaper and TV journalist for almost 40 years. Many of those years were spent in Boise and Portland, Oregon.

He explains the organization pulls together three things he cares about.

Gramer says, "Education, which I think is the passport to the American dream. The state of Idaho, which I love dearly, and this was a chance to contribute back. And thirdly, to work with the business community. Because nothing happens in Idaho without business leadership."

His first two goals are helping students master reading by third grade. That will help prevent possible dropouts later. And he wants to increase the number of Idaho high school students who go on to college, as well.

July 1, 2013.
