Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT- TV)
What started off as only a dream for the community the Jerome Skate Park Coalition made it into reality.
"The skate in Jerome became a dream of the community for the centennial an it never came to be so our committee got together, we got members that were of influential positions within the city and the county and several community members with businesses that have wanted the park for quit awhile, they've worked very hard."
The group has been working since November of 2012 to get the park for the city.
The group raised 180 thousand dollars to build the park.
General Manager of the Syringa donated 50 thousand dollars to the park and think that it's great for all generations.
"Well the skate park is something that everybody can use and it becomes a community resource more than a onetime project, this will have a legacy with it and it also helps the kids that live in a smaller community. One of the things that we found out is that there is a lot of parents out here and kids spending a lot of time and it becomes an attraction to the community.
The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting ceremony then a skate board competition.
Markus thinks this is a great addition to the community and gets kids out and exercising.
"It gives them a place to be and exercise. It gets them away from the TV's the computers ad it just helps them. They say that physical activity helps them with mental health, so its just a wonderful to see them here."
Dike thinks it can only help the community.
"In Jerome we know that the skate park is something that they've been wanting to do for quit some time, it was a good matter for us...The skate park is a good way to reach younger generation and at the same time do something that leaves a mark on the city and is beneficial to everybody."
