Not Your Grandmother's Bakery

Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) here in the Magic Valley Glanbia is known for its dairy products production.

But now the international company is expanding to the grain world.

In 2007 Glanbia purchased a Canadian flax base company and moved its operations to Sioux Falls South Dakota.

Now, the company is bridging the gap between South Dakota and Idaho by opening a new research and development bakery here in Twin Falls.

"What we're trying to do here in this facility is show how those grains can function in different kinds of bakery products... bread, sweet bakery types of products. And one of the things were trying to do is answer some of the consumer needs out there. Which are things like gluten reduction or maybe egg replacement for people who are sensitive to eggs."
Said Vice President of Glanbia Research and Development, Eric Bastian.

None of the products baked at the bakery will be available for purchase.

The company will instead sell and share their findings with other companies that are looking at ways to improve the overall health and taste of baking.
