Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) The community winners have been announced for the 2nd annual operation facelift. A two week long regional effort to spruce-up southern Idaho downtown communities has concluded with over 30 businesses cleaned up, painted and given a new look as part of SIEDO’s “Operation Facelift – New look. New Attitude. New Business.”
One business from each of the 9 participating southern Idaho communities was selected as the winning project to receive a $1,000 credit to run a television advertisement on local KMVT-TV in Twin Falls. The City of Burley participated by planting and placing over 300 potted plants throughout the city.
Winning projects for each city were: Twin Falls- Desktop by Designs; Jerome- John’s Barber Shop / Dynamite Nails and Toes; Rupert- Sunrise Cleaners; Kimberly-Kimberly Fitness Center; Filer- Filer Auto Parts; Paul- Tiny Bubbles Laundromat; Wendell- Stockmen’s Club; Gooding- Gooding Cinema; and Glenns Ferry- Kruger Building.
The City of Rupert was voted as “Most Improved City” and the City of Filer was voted “Most Improved City” runner up.
Randy Shroll, Idaho Department of Commerce and Stephanie Cook, Idaho National Lab judged the projects in each city.
“Seventy revitalization projects have been completed over the last two years to improve the appearance of downtown communities across our region,” said Jan Rogers, Executive Director of SIEDO. “This growing grassroots effort really shows the pride each community has for their city.”
According to Larry Hall, Southern Idaho Rural Development Coordinator and Operation Facelift Project Co-Manager, “This year, nearly 1,000 volunteers from 10 southern Idaho communities came out to scrub walls, windows, paint and plant to improve their downtown areas,” Over 30 downtown businesses throughout our region have been spruced up, building community pride and downtown commerce. We’re so pleased with the amazing volunteer effort put forth by so many community members,” he said.
