Perkins Raises Money To 'Give Kids The World'
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) Every parent wants to give their kid the world. A Florida-based organization does just that for children with life threatening diseases, and a local restaurant is helping out with that mission.
Tomorrow Perkins Restaurants are hosting "Give Kids the World" Pancake Day to raise donations for this worthy cause. This one-day fundraiser offers free pancakes. In return, you can make a donation for a way to help kids forget about their diseases.
Two and a half years ago, 10 year old Ellie Pruitt was diagnosed with a serious disease. Since then, she's had almost 80 chemotherapy treatments in Boise.
Pruitt says, "I have T-cell lymphoblastoma, it's similar to leukemia. We did treatment for about two years. I'm about to end treatment October 1st, and I will be done."
In August of last year, Ellie was able to visit a very special resort near Disney World, EPCOT, and the Animal Kingdom, that's only for kids with life threatening diseases. It's called “Give Kids the World.”
Joy Pruitt, Ellie's mom, says, "It was a beautiful resort with villas, a water park, a life-sized Candyland game, a free arcade. There was something going on every single day."
Volunteers treated all of the kids and their families like royalty. Give Kids the World provides a place to stay, free meals, and activities like horse therapy, which help families focus on having fun and making great memories.
Now Ellie is looking forward to a future without her disease.
Ellie Pruitt says, "I just have to go for checkups here and there, but other than that, I'm a normal kid."
Two weeks from now, Ellie turns 13, which will make her just a normal teenager with a great story to tell.
120,000 families have visited the 70 acre Give Kids the World resort in the last 26 years. You can get pancakes from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. tomorrow at Perkins Restaurant in Twin Falls.
