Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
An alleged kidnapping and assault taking place in Jerome last night, with the suspect still on the loose.
A woman was reportedly held at gunpoint and assaulted by an attacker.
The Jerome police department and Lincoln county sheriff's office are investigating an alleged kidnapping and aggravated assault.
The incident took place on Thursday evening sometime between 5:45 and 7:45.
A female victim in her late 20's came out of the gas station on West Main Street in Jerome, when a suspect pointed a gun at her and demanded she drive.
Lincoln County Sheriff Kevin Ellis says, "She was forced to drive her car into Lincoln County to a remote area off of Highway 93 in the vicinity of Notch Butte."
Once in the remote location, an assault took place and the suspect took off on foot.
"Members of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s department and a K–9 unit searched the area throughout the night looking for evidence where the alleged assault took place.
Ellis notes, "It was fortunate we were in a search and rescue meeting and we had about 10–15 members here and there was an immediate response. We located the crime scene and we have been investigating that we had someone sit on the scene all night."
Following the assault, the female drove herself to the Jerome hospital.
She sustained minor injuries.
The only description of the suspect is he was wearing black clothing at the time of the incident.
Lincoln and Jerome police are working together on the investigation, trying to piece together information.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's department says there is no reason for citizens to be overly concerned but they recommend people exercise caution when entering vehicles.
