Ketchum, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The preliminary design process for the Idaho 75 Big Wood River Bridge to Elkhorn Road construction project is starting this month, with outreach to local and state agencies, neighboring property owners and utilities. That’s the word from the Idaho Transportation Department.
The transportation department hired Parametrix, Inc. an engineering firm in Boise, to lead the consultant design team for the project.
This is the second project to be developed in the Timmerman to Ketchum Final Environmental Impact Statement, which was completed in August 2008 with a Record of Decision. The design elements of the Big Wood River Bridge to Elkhorn Road project are based on the Idaho 75 EIS concept plans and incorporated in the design and construction underway from Timber Way to the Big Wood River Bridge.
The proposed project includes replacement and widening of the Big Wood River Bridge north of Hospital Drive to accommodate four 12-foot travel lanes plus four-foot safety median and adequate shoulders. Idaho 75 will be rebuilt north of the bridge to transition into the existing four-lane roadway configuration. The intersection and signal at Elkhorn Road will remain unchanged.
In addition to the technical and environmental elements of the design, the process will include coordination with local governments and consultation with appropriate agencies. The team will coordinate with adjacent property owners and interested stakeholders to provide project information and gather input needed for the design.
Two public open house events will be held to present project information and gather input – one during the preliminary and another during the final-design stages. Announcements for these events will be provided through local media.
The preliminary and final-design process is scheduled to run through 2015 and construction is tentatively scheduled from 2016 to 2017. Additional information on the project also can be found at http://itd.idaho.gov and by following the links to “Projects,” Idaho 75 Timmerman To Ketchum, and Big Wood River Bridge.
