Preparing for Winter Driving Conditions
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV )
Whether we like it or not, the cold weather is approaching.
Chief meteorologist Brian Neudorff states, "some places like Burley or even Twin Falls can challenge some record low temperatures. We could be seeing highs struggling to reach 20 as we go into Thursday and Friday so your car better be ready.”
Drivers be warned, there are extreme temperature drops in the forecast and it could affect the way you get around.
The Idaho Transportation Department states one of the most important things is to prepare your car for bad weather.
Nathan Jerke of the transportation department recommends, “make sure your tires are the right kinds, properly inflated, that they are properly inflated… there's tons of things that you can have to be prepared."
A new feature to the 511 traveler information system enables drivers to report what they experienced on their commutes.
Neudorff states, “have expectations what conditions you’re going to meet. When you do get prepared, check the road conditions and know what the roadways are going to be like when you get out there.”
Jerke adds, “listen to advisories and make adjustments. If it’s a winter storm then maybe you need to rethink whether you need to travel on that particular time.”
Getting to your destination safely and smartly.
