Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KTWT-TV ) With temperatures almost reaching the triple digits, it's keeping doctor Laurence Hicks busy.

This time of year, he treats many patients for heat-related illness.

"What it really is overheating of the body and results from too much exposure to an overheated environment” Dr. Laurence Hicks, Falls Centre for Functional Medicine.

People suffer heat-related illness when their bodies are unable to properly cool themselves down.

"When you first become aware of the symptoms like having mild nausea, feel flushed, and overheated they should try to hydrate and cool down. Go indoors and drink a large amount of fluids, water is the best” said Hicks.

Being aware of your health while in the sun, could prevent you from going to the ER.

Doctors say it's vital that young children and elderly adults stay hydrated.
