Public Reaction to Changing Speed Limit
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV )
It's been a little over two weeks since the speed limit change went into affect across Idaho.
New limits on rural sections of Interstates 15, 84, and 86 jumped to 80 MPH on July 24th.
The limit increased to 70 MPH for trucks.
We spoke to drivers to get their reaction on how the speed limit change is affecting their travels.
Melissa Blain says, "Back home the speed limit is only 70 but people still drive 80, 85."
Leo Rusk adds, "most people that's about as fast as they want to go so I think it’s great."
At this time, it's unknown if the speed limit change is affecting road safety.
Public information officer with the Idaho Transportation Department Nathan Jerke says it could be three or four months until crash data is correlated.
