Rain In Magic Valley Benefits Snow Pack Levels

By Joey Martin

Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT-TV) - Thanks to the prolonged rain storm that called Southern Idaho home over the past few days, many are breathing a much needed sigh of relief.

The Twin Falls Canal Company expects this recent weather to be beneficial to the snow pack levels.

Over this last storm, the snow pack levels in the south hills and surrounding areas went from about 80 percent to well over 120 percent in just a few days.

Although the winter season is just getting underway, Officials with the Canal Company are happy to see the rain this early in the season.

"We watch it every day because we are only ¼ of the way through the snowpack season. It's a great start and it's easier to stay ahead then to catch up from behind,” said Brian Olmstead, Twin Falls Canal Company.

The Canal Company explains that our area needs 100 percent snow pack to fill the reservoirs since they were almost drained last year.
