Kimberly, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) Fifth graders at Kimberly Elementary School are raising awareness to stop bullying.
The young learners are raising money to provide the school with "buddy benches" as part of their service project.
These benches will be put in the playground and will serve as a place for lonely or sad kids to sit, with the hope that other students will notice that one of their classmates is in need of a friend.
Fifth grade teacher Valerie Lavender shares her thoughts on the project.
"I'm just really proud of my class and the whole 5th grade. They've been very responsible, and we're talking a lot about kindness and not bullying and I think this goes right along with it," she says.
So far, 5th graders have raised 500 dollars for the project.
They hope to raise the rest of the money by June 1st and have the benches ready for the next school year.
