Recreating History At The Sun Valley Lodge
Sun Valley, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) There's a lot of activity underway at the Sun Valley Lodge.
Construction begins this month on the spa, with the rest to follow in September.
Many are anxious to see what the designs will look like.
Carol Holding, the resort's owner, is overseeing the renovation's designs.
Construction is very visible as you enter the parking lot of the Sun Valley Lodge.
Crews are in the very early stages of a 37 hundred square foot addition, a tie-in to what will be part of a 20 thousand square foot spa.
"Right now we are starting the process of cleaning some of the lodge facilities, such as the lodge's kitchen and in the lodge's dining room, which will be part of the new spa," explains Jack Sibbach, Sun Valley Resort.
The Sun Valley Lodge, an iconic symbol of the community for more than 8 decades, will be undergoing its most extensive renovation yet.
"One of the things that we've always been known for is the historic culture of Sun Valley and the history and that will still be part of the lodge.... One of the things we have to do is take some of our standard rooms and bring them up to modern standards in terms of size. So most of the standard rooms, two of them will become one room, a fireplace, a sitting area, a couch bed, so that will actually be better family rooms," Sibbach says.
A renovation that will serve families for many more years to come.
The Sun Valley Lodge will be closed from Labor Day through June of 2015.
Christmas festivities, including the Christmas Eve Nutcracker on Ice and the torchlight parade, will go on as usual.
